1 - Tires: Underinflation is the leading cause of tire failure, according to the Rubber Manufacturers Association (RMA). In addition, low tire pressure can reduce gas mileage by up to 3.3 percent. Check on this one, the next time you fill up on gas.

2- Wipers: Generally, wipers should be replaced every six to nine months. When checking your wipers, make sure the windshield washers work properly and that your washer fluid reservoir is full.

3 - Lubricants and Fluids: Most failed vehicle inspections are due to easy to fix fluid issues. Improper fluid levels affect your vehicle's safety and can damage vehicle components.

4 - Parts: A broken belt or ruptured hose can cause costly engine damage and travel delays. It is important to have items such as belts and hoses regularly inspected and replaced with the right parts when needed.

With today's advanced technology it is of vital importance that the automotive technicians have the proper training when it comes to getting superior maintenance.

For instance, according to federal statistics and Automotive Service Excellence (ASE), only about half of the 820,000 auto service technicians in the U.S. are certified by ASE, an industry-recognized leader in technician certification.

The industry recognized the need for more standards in training and education. Due to this, MAP came together and developed a series of Uniform Inspection and Communication Standards. The guidelines give consumers the information they need to make an educated decision on repairs for their vehicle. The customer and shop technician together use the guidelines to agree on the work the shop will do on his or her vehicle, thus eliminating confusion or mistrust.
